At 3:28 PM on October 15, Zhoushan Changhong International launched the 2500 TEU container ship built for Shanghai Zhonggu Logistics through a floating dock connection as scheduled. Leaders and guests from Changhong International, Zhonggu Logistics, and CCS Classification Society witnessed this moment together. The ship has a total length of 179.90m, a length between perpendiculars of 176.85m, a beam of 32.18m, a depth of 16.00m, and a designed draft of 9.50m, making it the first container ship built by Changhong International.
Since taking over the order from Zhonggu Logistics in March 2016, the ship was placed on the shipbuilding platform on May 28, illuminated at the end of August, the main engine was installed by September 20, the shaft and rudder system work was completed by October 7, and then launched, showcasing the hardworking and pioneering spirit of Changhong people. During the project, the shipbuilding department strengthened communication with the shipowner and classification society, discussing solutions in advance for issues that existed during construction at Wuzhou Shipyard, and promptly addressing feedback from the shipowner and classification society on-site. Despite encountering some problems, through the joint efforts of all departments in the company, everyone united to ultimately achieve the goal of launching on time.
At the beginning of the project, to complete the milestones as quickly as possible, project team members traveled to Wuzhou Shipyard, dozens of kilometers away, for construction. Due to traffic, weather, and progress issues, they could not return to the factory for over 50 days.
During the construction at Changhong Shipyard, due to the long idle time of the ship, the steel plates in the main engine's circulating oil tank were severely corroded. The shipowner raised quite high cleanliness requirements. Chief engineer Huang Yiming repeatedly entered the tank to confirm the situation and discuss solutions, often spending several nights napping in the toolbox and then organizing production the next day. The ship plates at Wuzhou Shipyard are relatively thin, and the hull deformation was quite severe. The company worked overtime multiple times to restore it to flat. In addition to the above, the hatch UT, rudder wall, and tail shaft hole were also repaired multiple times, with on-site workers working through the night, completing what was originally a three-week workload in just 15 days.
Faced with numerous issues related to the old ship's piping system, including details like the cleanliness of the pipes, welding, and oiling, the shipowner's requirements were extremely strict, scrutinizing everything from particles and air holes on the pipe walls to the certificates of the construction personnel and welding times.
Throughout the shipbuilding process, Changhong people paid great attention to detail and long-term considerations. "For the thickness of the deck coating, the shipowner's design requirement was 1 cm, but our finished product exceeded this number, with some even reaching 3 cm. If it is too thin, the coating may fall off due to hull vibrations during later use," said the head of the shipbuilding department.
After4more than two months of careful crafting, the 'Zhonggu Guangzhou' is no longer that dilapidated old ship. Dressed in red and green, it radiates endless vitality, proudly moving towards its future voyage. Its timely launch marks a new milestone in Changhong International's shipbuilding technology. After launching, it will undergo outfitting and dock trials, with an expected11trial voyage in the month and delivery by the end of the year.
