The Maersk Drilling 'Perseverance' is being dismantled at Changhong International.
Release time:
2015-09-05
The self-elevating drilling platform 'Maersk Endurer' of Maersk Drilling has recently been retired from the fleet and arrived at Zhoushan Changhong International Recycling Company for dismantling and recycling on September 5.
Morten Pilnov, the global sales head of Maersk Drilling, stated: 'We chose Zhoushan Changhong International because it is currently the most advanced shipyard for dismantling drilling platforms, complying with the Hong Kong International Convention and EU regulations on safe and environmentally friendly shipbreaking, making it trustworthy.'
It is understood that this platform is the oldest self-elevating drilling platform in the Maersk Drilling fleet, manufactured in 1983. It is a jack-up triangular platform, measuring 69.12 meters in length, 72 meters in width, 9.14 meters in depth, and has a draft of 6 meters, with three legs each 146 meters high. Due to the platform's height and the current typhoon season, the application to tow the platform into the company attracted significant attention from higher authorities such as maritime and national inspection departments. To ensure the platform's safe entry into the company, maritime and other departments organized a special review meeting, and after our company implemented the required measures, they agreed to allow our company to tow the platform in, which successfully docked at the repair and construction company's pier on September 5, 2015.
'After the 'Maersk Endurer' drilling platform entered the port, how to dismantle it became a new challenge for the company's dismantling technicians. This triangular platform is different from the previously dismantled legged drilling platforms, and it is our company's first encounter with it. Its structure is complex, and the dismantling difficulty is high. Currently, company leaders and dismantling technicians are exploring and formulating dismantling plans and methods through various efforts involving shipowners and drilling platform experts, 'only looking for ways to succeed, not reasons for failure.' We believe the company will timely develop a safe and practical dismantling plan.
