On May 25, 2016, at 4:15 PM, Zhoushan Changhong International held a launching ceremony for its second 250,000 deadweight ton bulk carrier. This day marks exactly one year since General Secretary Xi Jinping's inspection of Changhong.
The ship, named 'HOUHENG 6', is a super-large bulk carrier built by Changhong International for Guangzhou Shipyard International, in line with green and environmentally friendly concepts. It is a sister ship to 'HOUHENG 5', which was inspected by General Secretary Xi last year. The ship is approximately 327 meters long, 57 meters wide, 25.5 meters deep, with a designed draft of 18.1 meters and a sailing speed of 14.5 knots, classified by DNV GL. After entering service, this type of ship will mainly be used for iron ore transportation between China and Australia, and its main dimensions are the largest that can currently access the major iron ore export ports in Western Australia.
'The construction structure requirements for the 250,000-ton series bulk carriers are high, and the workload is large; experience is gained bit by bit,' said Zhang Yiquan, head of the shipbuilding department of our company. 'HOUHENG 6' started construction last year and was successfully launched at the end of the year, with six to seven hundred workers involved in the construction. When encountering difficult problems, we brainstormed and worked together to overcome the challenges.
Wang Jiazhen, assistant general manager and head of the design department, said: 'Currently, the world's shipbuilding enterprises are mainly concentrated in China, Japan, and South Korea, and the entire industry is not prosperous. The reason our company can withstand difficulties, in addition to strong support from all aspects, is that Changhong International possesses a complete industrial chain modern manufacturing capability that integrates shipbuilding, repair, dismantling, and marine engineering equipment manufacturing, which is unique in the country, giving it strong market competitiveness and risk resistance.'
It is understood that 'HOUHENG 6' will enter a busy outfitting phase after its launch.Meanwhile, 'HOUHENG 5' will also conduct a trial voyage for a period of27days starting from the5of this month. Changhong International is busy in May, successfully completing the launch of one ship, the trial voyage of another, and the delivery of one ship (CHB005) at three key points.
