On the evening of May 31, the first 250,000-ton bulk carrier built by Zhoushan Changhong International successfully returned after completing all trial voyage projects in 5 days. This is the bulk carrier that General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected at the dock on May 25 last year during his visit to Changhong International.
The 'HOUHENG 5' is different from the previously built VLOCs of the same type. Its design draft tonnage is 250,000 tons, structural draft tonnage is 262,000 tons, service speed is 14.5 knots, and the actual EEDI value achieved is more than 20% lower than the baseline value, with a daily fuel consumption of 64 tons at CSR points. The main dimensions are: overall length 327 meters, beam 57 meters, depth 25.5 meters, design draft 18.1 meters, structural draft 18.8 meters. Therefore, the number of test items during the trial voyage is significantly more than that of previous VLOCs, and the technical difficulty is also greater. To ensure the trial voyage projects proceed in an orderly manner, the company established a special trial voyage leadership team a month before the trial, organizing elite personnel from various departments and inviting experienced service providers to join the trial team, completing all system submissions and eliminating basic defects before the trial, achieving the best integrity status in the history of VLOC trial voyages.
The trial personnel displayed the spirit and style of Changhong people throughout the journey, with some employees working tirelessly for dozens of hours, completing all test items in just 5 days, returning 2 days ahead of the original schedule. Even more gratifying is that the shipowner and classification society fully recognized the organization of this trial voyage, EEDI speed test, main engine endurance test, and other key trial projects. They stated: 'The vibration and noise effects of the 'HOUHENG 5' are very good; the EEDI value and speed exceed the expected requirements; we hope that our cooperation will reach new heights in the future.'
'HOUHENG 5' entered the dock for construction in early May 2015 and was launched in November. At this moment, she is about to sail into the blue sea, embarking on her brand new life journey.
