The ninth and tenth 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships of MSC have started construction.

On the morning of September 25, with the shipowner's representative starting the cutting machine button, amidst the festive sounds of firecrackers and fireworks, Changhong International successfully ignited and commenced the construction of the ninth and tenth 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships for the world's largest container shipping company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), in the A5 cutting workshop. Representatives from MSC's on-site office, BV classification society, and some mid-level and staff from Changhong International attended the ceremony.
This series of container ships is a new generation of 10,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships independently designed and developed by the China International Marine Containers (CIMC) Design Institute ORIC, with complete intellectual property rights. It adopts a dual-island layout and is equipped with the largest C-type LNG fuel tank in its class. The range in both LNG mode and fuel oil mode can meet the round-trip needs of classic Central Europe or Central America routes, ensuring the flexibility of the shipowner's operational plans. This type of ship features clean and environmentally friendly characteristics, low carbon emissions, and can save about 5% more fuel compared to existing similar ships. The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is approximately 40% lower than the International Maritime Organization (IMO) stringent third-phase emission baseline. The design has excellent technological foresight, utilizing both LNG and traditional fuel dual-power propulsion, and incorporates the industry's most advanced ammonia fuel 'Ready' design.
The total length of this series of ships is 335 meters, with a beam of 45.6 meters and a depth of 25 meters, designed for a speed of 20 knots. The two ships that commenced construction this time are classified by BV classification society.
Currently, the company holds 32 new shipbuilding orders from Mediterranean Shipping Company, all of which are 10,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships.
